Air Conditioner and Heater Repair
The primary function of your car's Air Conditioning system is to keep you cool. It also dehumidifies your car when the windows get fogged up, and helps the defroster work more efficiently in the winter.

When it stops performing properly, then it is time to visit the technicians at Nichols Automotive Service Center. We have state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and expertly trained technicians ready to determine why your vehicle's A/C system is not working regardless of the manufacturer. We will repair and return your vehicle to its cooling ways quickly and correctly. We stock R-134a refrigerant for your car. We also do conversions (changing over your car from the old refrigerant to the new type). This has become the preferred method for recharging cars built before 1993.

How it works!

  • Your A/C system has four major parts. The industry generally has two types of systems expansion valve or orifice tube type, however they basically function in the same manner.
  • The compressor, mounted on the engine, is a pump that circulates the refrigerant through the system. This is the most important and expensive component of the A/C system.
  • The condenser transfers heat removed from the passenger compartment to the outside air. It is located in front of the radiator, just behind the front grille of the vehicle.
  • The evaporator, located near the dash or firewall, transfers the passenger compartment heat to the refrigerant, which transfers it to the condenser.
  • The dryer absorbs any excess moisture from the refrigerant.
  • Other areas that should be inspected include the flexible hoses that connect each of the major components together, their metal connectors and rubber seals. Each of these components are a potential source for leaks and need to be inspected regularly.

Nichols Automotive Service Center works with R-134a refrigerant (we can retro-fit your vehicle from the R-12 refrigerant to R-134a refrigerant). We can check your A/C system to make sure it is cooling efficiently and we can perform any repair work that may be needed if your system malfunctions.
